The operation remove excessive subcutaneous fat on some parts of body
The operation is called tumescent liposuction and its purpose is a suction of a part of subcutaneous fat. First the tissue is filled up by means of a thin needle with a special solution, which will cause a contraction of blood vessels, and bleeding after the operation is then smaller. The fat cells also become more fragile and it is easier to suck them. Then the actual suction is performed by means of a liposuction cannula and a liposuction device creating underpressure. The operation is not intended to decrease the excessive weight but to shape certain part of body. It is limited by the skin elasticity. It leaves only minimum 3 mm long scars.
It is usually performed in general anaesthesia, only small parts can be performed in local anaesthesia on outpatients.
Within the scope of pre-operative interview, the doctor will explain to the patient the issues of the operation, possible risks and complications and course of the post-operative period. One or two weeks before the operation the patient will get the preoperative examination from her general practitioner or another doctor, which includes blood collection, EKG and assessment of the results by the doctor. This examination can be performed in our hospital in the morning on the day of the operation.
One week before the operation you will stop using drugs such as Acylpyrin, Aspro, Aspyrin and Mironal, which contain acetylsalicylic acid causing bleeding.
Take your personal belongings, ID cards, results of the preoperative examination, slippers, pyjamas or night dress, things for personal hygiene.
Do not take any jewels, valuables and bigger sums of money to hospital, apart from the money to pay for the operation.
Hospitalisation usually lasts one day, if you are interested, you can use suites situated in the building for after-treatment. There you can stay with the people who accompany you.
In the morning when you leave the hospital, arrange a lift home.
At home prepare painkillers, such as Brufen, Ibalgin, Paralen etc.
Post-operative instructions, convalescence
After the liposuction the convalescence usually lasts 1 week. However, the swelling stays for up to 2 months so the effect of the operation cannot be seen immediately. The skin will be bruised for several weeks. It is necessary to wear elastic garment for 5 to 6 weeks. Also after the first week of the operation you have to massage with pressure the operated places until they become completely soft, which lasts approximately one month.
For cosmetic operation it is not possible to provide sick leave and health insurance company does not contribute to it financially.
General risks of the operation:
- Bleeding (haematoma)
- Infection
- Lung embolism – blood clot embolus in lungs as a result of changes in blood pressure and blood coagulability during and after the operation. For preventive purposes elastic stockings are used before the operation, the patient starts walking soon after the operation, sometimes drugs for blood coagulability correction are administered.
- The cosmetic effect does not have to be ideal
- Dissatisfaction of the patient with the result of the operation
Risks connected with this operation:
- A small difference in size and shape, mainly of geminate areas.
- Small unevenness of the skin surface and tangible roughness under the skin.
- Dropping of skin in case of excessive suction in areas with small skin elasticity.
- Longer healing of the skin in the places of cannula punctures.
As a result of these complications corrective operation might be necessary.
You must not expose the operation scars to sun and radiation in solarium for 6 months. To make them disappear more quickly you can buy preparations in our outpatients department on the basis of consultation with us.
Aesthetic surgery is not an exact science and it is not possible to give 100 % guarantee or assurance as regards the treatment and result of the operation. The world statistics state 5-10 % complications for aesthetic operations.
